Sri Lankan Ayurveda Green Beans Tempered Recipe

(Total Approx. time: 20-30 minutes)

INGREDIENTS (For 3-4 people) :

  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seed
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp mixed curry powder
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tbs coriander leaves,
  • 1/2 kg green beans
  • 2tsp coconut
  • celtic sea salt


* Chop onions, ginger, garlic and coriander leaves

* Wash and cut green beans


  1. Heat oil in pan on medium-high heat, add mustard seeds and roast until they start to pop.
  2. Add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, mixed curry powder and onions and fry until onions start to brown, about 3-4minutes
  3. Stir in ginger, garlic, coriander, coconut and cut beans
  4. Reduce heat to low, then cover and cook until beans soften, add water if necessary
  5. Add salt to taste

NOTE: This keeps well in the fridge for 3-4 days. Goes well with white rice, toasted bread, roti or dosai
